I'm getting huge CPU penalty/server fps drops as others mentioned, had to disable plugin

Two more things that would make the plugin better:

1. Shooting the driver should not kill all the other npcs (that's weird anyway)

2. The patrol boats should drive out of the way of approaching cargo ships (they explode a lot due to crashing into them)

3. I love it that they are triggered by players on the cargo ship and it would be great if they would convoy the cargo and attack the players instead of suicide while driving into the cargo

Similar issues for me as well. I am hoping for an update to this as it'd be great with the new tugboats.

Are you both in the Mad Mapper Discord? If not can you join? I can even make a group ticket if people are still having problems. There were a few comments recently but I was waiting myself to hear if anyone was having errors or problems since updating. Can you confirm you definitely have the newest version and if you do jump into a ticket in Discord and give us all the information you have. The problems what you've tried everything you can think of so we can try to find the sources of any issues.

I am in the Mad Mapper Discord and I am using the currently downloadable version of the plugin. 

It seems as though too many boats are spawning, though I think I have the config set up to have a maximum of 4.

Can you confirm the version manually and or in game just to be sure.

Also double check though as some people forget that there are multiple presets in the default config and you might have more spawning in other presets than the one you're looking at.

According to the console, the version number is:

"WaterPatrol" (1.0.6) by KpucTaJl (1.28s) - WaterPatrol.cs

I do have multiple presets. I'd reset my config to see if that fixed the performance issue and it looks like I created another issue while trying to troubleshoot the first. I am working to fix this now. Thanks.

Re: the config and presets, is it possible to:

  1. add an overall range for patrol boat spawns (similar to how ZombieHorde works) to prevent the map from being overtaken by Water Patrols, and
  2. add the ability to NAME preset tiers to make them easier to track, and
  3. add the ability to set each patrol preset tier to be a % of that total

Another option is to add something similar to CustomHelicopterTiers (v2.x) where you have the ability to set the following in addition to the minimum and maximum number of spawned instances:

"Spawn Chance (Default = 100)": 25.0,

 I want to have multiple levels of difficulty re: the boats, but having the math work out can be overwhelming and I have to set levels based on the "worst possible scenario today" (maximum boats I want at one time across presets) to make it work.

Ignore my comment re: naming... it's there, just somewhat buried (would be easier if it were BEFORE the chase range.

  1. Don't know the reference, explain more what you mean though by an overall range?
  2. You figured this one out yourself but yeah, totally can do that.
  3. I suggest just adjusting the min/max of each preset to achieve that effect.

As I stated and would suggest as above, in my opinion this is much more simply done by having a very small min/max for the low probability boat, and a large min/max for the higher tier. Since you've got the max amount of boats you want, just adjust now what presets those numbers fit into, and make the tough and high reward boats just a small min/max and you're good to go.

  1. By overall range, I mean total number of boats on the server. IOW, if I want a minimum of 4 boats and a maximum of 8 across ALL presets, I'd like the ability to set this in the config.

  3. I then want to say that 40-60% of them can be tier 1, 25-30% tier 2, and so on. 

The above prevents me from having to manually adjust all the tiers when I switch maps. On my server, I typically use a procedural map (4250-4500) for the first 1/2 of the month and then a custom map that can range anywhere from 1600-3500 the second 1/2. Depending on map size and overall amount of water, I find that I have to adjust the number of boats to compensate. Having 1 tier makes this easier but offers less variety.

I am finding that the plugin more often than not generates the maximum across the board. Are others seeing this as well?

  1. I'm telling you that by spreading those numbers out within the presets, and either making more presets or less, whichever simplifies your process. You can already set the min and max between all.

If you make a change partway through the month why not make two different copies and keep them on hand. Upload the one that fits that map size and just keep swapping them out, so keep a copy of both obviously.

I'll be completely honest myself since I'm already responding. Not suggesting this but I myself like to pick the numbers that make sense and leave extra spawn points to choose from. I don't normally even really use the min max and give it much range if any. That's just me though so maybe others will chime in.

Do you block NPC damage with TruePVE? It really depends on how you have it configured and in what way it is being blocked. This can vary depending on your rules and groups. What do you have blocked?

But other NPCs in the game can cause damage to buildings.

Are you in the Mad Mapper Discord? It may be easier to discuss back and forth to find out what issue you are having. It might be in the settings for WaterPatrol somehow. TruePVE setup looks okay at a glance but try adding heavy scientist to the NPC group if it is not there, it's below the rules.

Being able to use

"Prevent players from dealing damage to NPCs if they are out of the patrol boat's Sense Range? [true/false]": false

and the patrol npc's would shoot back, also using the rocket launcher, no matter how far they are would be great.

This would be so much better and more realistic.

Still have an issue where if I load this plugin the server FPS goes to 10 or lower and the CPU is smashed on performance.  I even deleted my configs and went default config and same issue.  13900K CPU.  Solid 40+ server FPS until I load this plugin, and CPU usage goes thru the roof.  Is this fixed or anyone else still experiencing this?  Miss this plugin... can't run it.

Should jump in a Mad Mapper ticket and we could dig into it. How many of each preset are you spawning?

So far only thing we have potentially found would be boat count. How many of each preset do you have spawning?

I also stopped using this plugin months ago because of how much fps it takes up. Once a couple people show up to the server then you really have to disable the plugin.

I lowered the spawning number and even 2 causes problems, dropping the fps to the point where I have to disable the plugin.
