Great idea for a plugin!

It would be great if the '/sma export' command could happen on an event or timer. Keeping the images from wipe to wipe is a main perk so forgetting to do this on wipe day may ruffle feathers. Also I'm sure admins don't need another task to remember on wipe day.

Does the import happen only on the next restart or does it happen every restart? I'm guessing it only imports the export once on restart.

I'd love it to work the opposite way where it automatically exports more often and imports maybe after a wipe?

Just some thoughts. Looks great!

Hi,

Import only happens if exported data exists.
It's not the lightest of routines so I made it only export when you ask and only import once immediately after that.

I can add a console command for it, so the export can be automated by some other plugin or script?
I guess a lot of servers have wipe announcements or some kind of happy hour?

Suggestion

When a player creates a sign, and it auto saves they get a message in chat advising them that it was saved and they can access it using /sm.

Allow this message to be editable in the language file.

Why this is so important, IMO, is that players won't know about this plugin, but they will create signs. If the message came up each time a sign was automatically saved advising them about it, they would learn about the plugin and it would get used more.

Another suggestion

Having /sma export as a console command would be extremely useful. For me this command would be part of my wipe ritual and I do that from the console entirely. It would be time consuming to be required to launch Rust to save signs.

I really like this. Any chance of more than 25 images? I've just today had a player tell me he'd created a 4-storey art gallery on my PvE server. It looks great, being a mix of real art in the form of famous real world paintings, Rust art, memes, and a fun room with neon signs, at least 100+ images at a guess. It would be nice if the plugin supported more images to make it easier for him to use signs.

Anyway to get this integrated with Discord? So it will work with one of the plugins that sends the sign image to a discord server with buttons to delete the sign, block sign usage, etc...

Does this just save a sign a player made in game?

Can I import from outside the game an image I wish to install on a sign?

How is this different from the free Sign Manager on UMOD?

Hi,
I'm not aware of a free Sign Manager on uMod.
Maybe you're mixing it up with Sign Artist which is free and lets you import png/jpg from external sources?

Sign Manager lets players save up to 25 images, from signs, in their own personal UI library, and restore those images on to as many signs as they like.

That would mean, for example, if a sign that took some time to create is destroyed, a user could easily reapply the image to a new sign in a few clicks rather than having to draw the whole thing again.

it also allows admin to view sign image and creator history and remove unwanted images from the server in a few clicks.

Thanks for clearing that up. It was Sign Artist I was thinking about.

Any way to make the image outside Rust and import it to my profile? Sign Artist is OK but it comes with its issues. The simplicity of this makes is desirable for players and admins looking for a clean way to restore server signs.

SignManager doesn't have an option to import from URL, but it can save whatever is on the sign, regardless of source,
so you could use SignArtist to jpg import, then use SignManager to save that to your personal collection for re-use, if you wanted.

I'm not sure if there's any advantage to that, over just using SignArtist for jpg/URL import, but I suppose that depends on what you're doing.

Honestly because it has a UI and pictures + Easy Export for server wipe.

SignArtist you to have to type stuff. People fail to understand the command strings, options, and limitations of SA.
Give them a UI button to open this UI and it is clickit and stickit.

Im very confused about how players can save their images like month to month. Ive tried it but I always mess up or need to do an additional wipe and forget. I was wondering if there was any other way for an artist to obtain the work they do. Currently we have a method of saving every picture but I'm looking for a way for artists to save there most special pictures. a more efficient way. If there is no way possible I understand but the crp artists would greatly appreciate it.

Art is Huges on our server we have artists from across the world who have been featured in rust community pages and participated in rust art competitions.

Below is some in game samples from EaglesOverSeagulls, Kolty, Tim Tardashian and Nanny. If you have any advice much appreciated

Hi,
If you do `/sma export` in chat right before you shut your server down before a wipe, it will save sign information into a json file then import it all again the next time the server starts - That should be post-wipe.

It has to be perfect order, though - You can't do `/sma export` then reload the plugin or restart the server.
Has to be

  • /sma export
  • shutdown (without reloading SignManager)
  • wipe/update server
  • start up fresh server - Import happens automatically.

Ok I will follow these steps on wipe day. Would it be ok to remove the plugin after step 2 until we were 100% sure the server was ready to play and readd it after step 4?

Yes, that's fine.
Basically once you've done /sma export, the plugin will import that saved data again immediately the next time it loads.

As long as you don't accidentally load/reload the plugin after using the export command, or wipe the map twice, there shouldn't be a problem,
but if you're more comfortable doing the export command then just removing the plugin until you're up and running again, that'll work.

Hi.
I think this is a very nice plugin.

By the way, I have a question, is it possible to save and export not only the signboard but also the image drawn on the egg-suit?
If it could do this, it would be an even better plugin for users.
