You don't understand how people people feel that way? Re-read the comment section bro. People are more upset they didn't have any previous knowledge before wipe this was transpiring. Most people like myself didn't find out until after wipe when the servers are failing to compile. At no point in the hours that lead up to this was anyone made aware of this, now all of sudden we have to pay 40 bucks. Not mad about the money, it is what it is but just dropping it on people as everyone is scrabbling to wipe their servers is screwed up fr fr. Even it was yesterday, we could still have pre-pared for it, Very poor execution.

This ^

We have a small budget. i have been saving up for the past few months for new plugins, monuments and such so that my members can enjoy some solid game play. Nothing works now and i dont have 40 bucks laying around during this time of the month. Spending a lot on Christmas presents just before the lock down rules that recently got back active.

If i knew that this was going to happen, then i would kept some money on the side. Now, i'm stuck with a pve server that has nothing much more then wide open space to build something and free loot for the grabs.

Okay, so they made it paid, but could you at least make the configs compatible? Now all carry over the whole HELL!

Thank you, it's a pity that this is not in the description.
There used to be seconds. Redo everything again.

It is in the description although, admittedly, only added recently.

The description will be much more detailed and probably will have tutorial videos, soon.

I know it's still unfinished, but the lack of support for a spawn database is terrifying.
Over 200 spawn points have to be specified manually. It's really terrible.

But there is no choice. My sever would never be without this. 😞

My plan was always to keep BotSpawn.cs available and free.

The fact that BotSpawn.cs no longer works is due to FacePunch recent decision to remove older AI assets and code, which is out of my control - I only found out about that this week.

It's a shame, and people will misread it, but that's how it worked out.

This rewrite was always going to be charged for, and has plans for future development/expansion.

Does this add any additional functionality or does this just restore the functionality in botspawn? trying to understand how to justify the high cost

yea i read it, all i see is whinging little cryers tbh.. lots of things happen in life.. and thats when you find out how many ppl are really whingy babies.. even some of my friends surprise me .. i dont get it, never have.

for sure theres many ways to deal with issues and problems.. but as soon as i see someone whinging.. lol.

i should bite my tongue but pfft, i feel bad for steen that this forum now has ppl crying and posting.. but hopefully its the usual story.. if somethings awesome and working well youre probably only gonna hear feedback from a few ppl. something bad happens and suddenly all the nappies are full.

No one is forcing anyone to purchase a plugin. Just be glad that you have had 4 1/2 years of a free plugin while it worked.

While it may not be your fault that they changed the code, you have taken advantage of the situation for your own personal monetary gain.  It would be completely appropriate to put a 10-15 dollar price tag on the new version as a sign of good faith.  Call it a limited time offer.  There are a lot of servers broken because of this.  Next month raise the price back up to 40 so you don't look like you are doing this out of greed.  My server is garbage without this but 40 dollars is not worth it.  My server is free and I don't take donations and I am not going to start.

so now we have to wait for the other plugins to be updated to use this.  figured buying it would fix the others... not so much

i just bought it, and i had to buy it because a lot of players liked the BotsSpawn plugin so much, and thinking of it for how long this plugin was for free, honestly i really think he 100% deserve to get finally paid for this plugin.
and as it says in the description "with new features and ideas to come in the near future"
so i think the price would be fair, imagine what already was possible with the free version!
this one only will get better i think, so no need to complain imo!
looking forward to see what will be added in the future in this brand new plugin from this great developer!

Well i hope   one of those developments is my request to have the bots slowly/gradually spawn when an empty server is populated and then despawn when it is empty (after a set cooldown),

I will of course buy the new version as my server depends on it

Was a bit of a sudden notice, but I do believe this was out of Steenamaroo's control. If this plugin becomes something similar to what happened with the raidable bases plugin in becoming two different versions of the plugin which are working, this will be something that most PVE server owners would have made the move to the paid version. How quickly it transitioned is difficult for some people. I did purchase the new plugin and have it running... I would have purchased it at any point when it became active as a paid plugin, so it is fine with me.

Yea unfortunate situation for some ppl, but it's a plugin I would have payed for to begin with anyways. Everything comes at a price. Looking forward to future content.

If it was never the intention to let BotSpawn die, to act as the free version, then maybe it should be revived. Unless the idea was to keep it alive until this kind of change happened, which is understandable.

Gentleman... please understand, Facepunch caused this issue.

FROM THE FACEPUNCH UPDATE WEBSITE:

Quote

This month I was finally able to remove two more of the various AI setups that we've had in Rust over the years. Now pretty much everything is running on one system. This meant I was able to remove a ton of code and prefabs - this is better for maintenance and long term development of the AI.

The minute this happened... Steen's hands were tied. There is no way to update the FREE plugin, as the code that it relies on is gone, taken away.. by FacePunch. Thankfully, Steen had already been working on a newer plugin using the new code that had been introduced months ago. If he had not.. there would have been NO OPTION AT ALL!

Just my 2-cents... CatMeat

yes i read it, no one is forced to, FP never forced anyone to do or not do anything, it's a Steen choice, only that

As someone who was worked in commercial software development I have empathy, that many operators do not have. Do you realize all the Oxide APIs changed, require recoding the plugin because FP changed how NPC work (did you read the patch notes)?  Do you realize the days that would take?  Steen had a WIP new paid version of BotSpawn he has been working on for many months.   It was easier to fix that version, than spending days fixing the old one.

Steen owes you NOTHING since BotSpawn was a free plugin.  He gave you years of a excellent plugin with excellent support for free.  Developers always have the choice to move to paid.  So either buy the new one, or patch the old one yourself... If you read the API changes you would realize this is not some easy fix he is avoiding to force you to the paid one.  Steen decided not to spend more time on the outdated free version and accelerate the paid on.  Fair enough.  $40 is a high price, but still a fair price for the hours of enjoyment it gives my players.  I immediately bought it as I saw the value in it.
