From the description of the plugin....

Upgrades are tied to specific furnace placed, upon picking it up levels are lost.

So I might be missing something, but with this update to FurnaceLevels, the furnaces are MUCH slower than even vanilla. We can smelt from multiple slots which appears to be good (this should maybe be it's own upgrade. Ability to smelt from 1-5 slots on a furnace to increase speed). But each tick only smelts 1 ore. On vanilla, each tick smelts 15 at a time.

I noticed that also. I think a workaround could be to increase the speed bonus in the config.

I was about to say, you can always change default values if furnaces feel slow

This is very vague, beacuse well... Rust players be Rust players, but I had a player tell me this:

Quote

furnace upgrades seem to not be working

output is fully upgraded, still only smelts 1 : 1 ratio. large and small both.

Anyone having issues since the latest Rust update?

Just updated after yesterday wipe and works fine for me.

We have the same problem, it only burns 1:1, equal on what stage it is. only the burning speed is affected with the config

I tested and it works fine. He didn't realize that Output is a chance of extra output, not a flat amount. I saw a difference between an upgraded output vs an non upgraded furnace.

The output can be a flat output like it was previously.

Search for 'flatOutput' in the .CS file

I did some testing with a stop watch. It seems that if you leave the default level (level 1) at 0.5, the Small Furnace smelts slightly faster than Rust default (about 1.5x) but the Large Furnace smelts 1/2 the speed (about 0.7x) than Rust default. You can tune that down to 0.4 and the Small Furnace will be about 2x the default Rust speed but the Large Furnace is still under the default Rust speed (about 0.85x).  I didn't start getting default Rust smelting speeds on the Large Furnace until i set it to around 0.35, which at that point the Small Furnace was smelting at about 2.4x Rust default speeds.

These tests where using Metal Ore with all slots full. Some of the results varied as it almost seems like default Rust doesn't always smelt at the exact same speed every time, the start up is slower sometimes, it's weird. But these numbers are fairly accurate.

I don't know if this is even fixable to have a flat rate increase on both the small and large furnaces at the same time with the way FP redesigned oven smelting/cooking. But if anyone can figure it out, Its David 🙂 Maybe the only way is to have a different value in the config for Small vs Large furnaces?

I brought up a similar issue with David. I found with the plugin unloaded, small and large furnaces smelt faster than they do with the plugin loaded and without the furnaces upgraded at all. I'm waiting to see if there will be an update.

I ended up removing it from my server until/if an update comes out.

Double sadness - yeah I did too. Its unfortunate that David cannot update it anymore.

So, just to clarify all this, facepunch completely changed how smelting works, ui, values, speed etc. Hence default values for furnaces in FurnaceLevels are not same as vanilla smelting rates, however this can be adjusted to some extend by changing level 1 speed and fuel consumption values.

This is clip from freshly installed server with no other plugins, it works exactly how it was before, 4 wood burned for each sulfur smelted. Can be also compared with this video from previous update -> https://youtu.be/DkBS7iAzgyM

Thanks David - will try this out tonight

@ZoreenoMade an excellent post showing the results of testing. If you get the large furnace to vanilla level without being upgraded, the small furnace will function about 2.4x faster than vanilla when not upgraded:
