I have been using this plugin for a few months on my server and I like the functionality. Being able to skin things in different ways is awesome. But after importing several problem skins and a bad collection, the plugin really freaks out and degrades server performance when reloading or just when being used and the connection to Steam causes freezing and hiccups server-wide. I can see in the console the workshop id's of the offending skins, but I cannot find them in the config file. Admittedly, I am not normal and probably have 1/4 the skins from the entire workshop in my file:) When I used the free skins plugin from umod, I was able to go in and find the problem skins easily and fix them if they just needed a proper category added, like 'rug' or 'jackhammer'. And if they were just not working right, I could delete them and problem solved. But with Skinner V2, there is no way to go through the config file and find the offending id's. There are no categories like rug, rock, or whatever. And I swear after trying a few different times, some of the id's throwing errors on compiling are not in the config at all. Even downloading it to my desktop and going through it using 'find on page' doesn't work, because it doesn't search the whole file. I am going to have to reacquire the skins from scratch to stop the Steam connection feakouts. But without a way to at least use a command to delete a skin by id#, Do I really want to use this plugin and spend 20 hours grabbing skins, just to have another unfixable error pop up and be right back where I started? Please, Whispers, just as we have easy commands sip or cip for importing skins and collections, a skin or collection remove command to go along with it will let us keep whatever is left of our sanity intact. And if you know of a way to allow us to find an ID in the config to fix the item definition manually, you will be a nerd God and your plugin can go back on sale for $40 instead of $25. Not to mention, a bunch of us would probably volunteer to have your children. Which would be difficult for many of us, being without the prerequisite womb and ovaries, but we would probably try it anyways, despite the sh1tty aftermath:)

 I guarantee it is a skin in a collection. thats giving the error.

When I reload Skinner I get a long list of ID's it says are bad. I have added mostly just collections.

If I get the time, I am going to try and start finding which collections have the bad ID's and remove them.

After grabbing the bad Skin ID's from the server logs, I was able to go through my entire Skin Config. It took several hours. Not a single skin ID that is throwing errors was actually in the config, so I couldn't remove them. So, not only have I spent a total of about 40 hours in this plugin, it was all for nothing. If you import a bad skin or collection, your file is perma-screwed. There is no command to scrub a skin or collection by console, so the only option is to get rid of the plugin, config, and data files, then reinstall it and start importing skins all over again, until, of course, you import another bad skin....

Is there a way to block skinning of boxes that have certain skins when players use /SkinBase?

Ok, I managed to fix my skins file from throwing errors in the console for bad skins. I couldn't find any resource that allowed me to look up skins by Steam ID alone, but I was able to just copy any Steam url/ Id, such as this one for the tempered bow- https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2475197041&searchtext=tempered   . I removed the skin id number from the link, and added in the id numbers that were throwing errors. This allowed me to see the skins directly in the Steam workshop. Then I could see if they were individual skins or part of collections. Downloading the config json and opening it with Notepad, I was able to use the "find" function to quickly locate the bad collections. @ Og.Ghost, you were absolutely right. I only had 2 bad individual skins, the rest were from collections. I edited the Json and uploaded it to the server a few times until all the errors were gone. I wanted to add this workaround as a resource for other dummies like me out there who may be looking for an answer.

Hi

This plugin is a massive improvement over the free one our server uses, cant wait for our players to use it. I would like to move the search box so it is directly on the right of the LOOT text, see attached screenshot, can someone help with what co-ordimates i need to put in the config to move it?, everytime i change it, it either stretches it or goes in the wrong location. thanks in advance. where it is now is being hidden by our hud which i dont want to move.

cheers

Hi,

A player requested some skins and i approved them, they are showing but the display name of all the skins is not showing, in the config it is set to true to apply names, all it has added is the name of the item.

"879653945": {
      "itemShortname": "locker",
      "itemDisplayname": "Locker"

Also i was using Misticos Skins plugin before, and the skin data convertor doesnt like the Skins config file it gives this error:

Exception in Tkinter callback
Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "tkinter\__init__.py", line 1962, in __call__
  File "Skin Data Converter.py", line 38, in select_file
  File "Skin Data Converter.py", line 21, in convert_json
TypeError: string indices must be integers, not 'str'

Any chance of getting it working for this plugin?

Many Thanks

I have managed to sort it now, if you need to move it the co-ordinates are

"Custom Searchbar UI Positon anchor/offset 'min x, min y', 'max x', max y'": [
    "0.5 0.0",
    "0.5 0.0",
    "250 635",
    "400 660"

I'm having the following issue with the plugin:

Place a High External Wooden Wall them with /si try to change it to a High External Legacy wall it makes the wall body disappear and only the barbed wire stay with a small offset down in the Y position.

And you can't even do "env kill" on it, but if you try placing another wall it recognizes and snaps to it.

Question about Facepunch's new DLC rules and plugin compatibility

Hello!
I just read the new server guidelines from Facepunch (as of July 2025). It clearly states that servers are not allowed to give players access to DLC or Facepunch-locked skins unless they actually own them.

What does this mean for this plugin?
Will there be a feature in the future to automatically detect and block Facepunch DLC content for players who don’t own it?

Thank you in advance – I just want to make sure my server stays compliant with the rules.

I suppose its entirely upon the server owner to responsibly check what skins they allow players to use.
Yay... more work for us.  Sifting through tens of thousands of skins.

Again, like I wrote here

I think this is only for what was defined as a  "community server" based on Facepunch terminology, not a modded server.
I need to read up more and delve into it. Im sure there are many intentional loopholes as to what defines these particular terms, or the plugins themselves and most rust communities would be at risk.

I dont think "Face Poach" would want to go that far...yet

If I'm incorrect about types of servers, well the only relevant part then really is this:
and the part that defines FP DLC

"(a) Can I restrict access to DLC content on our Servers? No - if it is Facepunch approved downloadable content ("Facepunch DLC"), then players must be able to freely and unconditionally access their validly purchased Facepunch DLC across all Servers."

Hey Malkizid,

Just to add: with the July 15 update, modded servers are no longer exempt — granting DLC access to players who haven’t purchased it is now explicitly forbidden across all servers, not just Community ones.

This used to be a grey area, but it’s clear now.

Cheers,

Thanks for clarifying that Kobani!
I could not confirm this so I'm glad to hear that

Time to start planning

Best regards,

@Whispers88
could you please add a option to "remove" / "hide" or deactivate **all** official skins from the plugin?
this would help a lot to avoid using skins that get accepted after we added it to the data.

in best case, you could also allow players that own a specific official skin to make them being usable in the skin menu.

Yes, please!   I can't even fathom where to start hunting for DLC skins, if we can get a sorting method from the dev, that would save endless hours of hunting.   Please?   🙂
