I really have enjoyed the Homing Missiles Mod.  It was an easy install and adjustment.  I added the smoke missiles to drop in the elite crates so they are available.  The only draw back is the small area for target lock-on.  But I remind myself, where would the fun be if a player pointed in a general direction and got a lock on.
