Among our clients we have servers running 1,200 players online on a single instance, and everything works perfectly fine. Smart people have heavily optimized the plugin to minimize allocations on the most loaded hotspots.

So no - for servers with that kind of player count, everything should definitely be performing at a very solid level. Not to mention low-pop servers.
