Before I buy a question. Is there a possibility to display the whole area a little smaller? Otherwise my button plugin would be above their gui.

@Kobani plugin is using full screen UI. It will be on the top of anything else.

Also via the custom buttons from David? I have already had other experiences. I just want to be sure.

This plugin use "Overlay" layer. Only thing can be on top is "Overall". You can ask author of your plugin which layer he use. You can find list here.
