Updated Review Policy - Improving transparency and fairness

We’ve updated our review policy to make the feedback process more open, transparent, and now completely community-driven. Reviews will still undergo an initial check to ensure they are appropriate and in line with our terms of service. Beyond this, we will no longer evaluate the authenticity of user experiences beyond what is outlined in our disclaimer.

Starting today, the community has taken control of all reviews to improve transparency and fairness. You get to decide what you deem appropriate feedback or not, rather than at the whim of our moderation team. While we worked extremely hard to be transparent and ensure quality reviews, we completely understand that it wasn't a good look.

You can mark a review as helpful or unhelpful to increase or decrease the signal from each review. Once a review becomes overwhelmingly unhelpful, it will no longer contribute to the review's rating, but will still be visible, positioned slightly out of sight to avoid occupying screen real estate from helpful reviews.

This can go either way, so we'll be actively monitoring review voting activity to ensure the integrity of our new review system and prevent it from being used in an inappropriate way to influence or invalidate reviews, such as coordinated attacks from malicious users or creators trying to boost their ratings. As with everything, we will hope for the best and adjust accordingly.

If you have any feedback or questions about these changes, please don't hesitate to ask them here. We're very interested to know what your take is. To read the updated disclaimer, check out https://codefling.com/disclaimer/

Will the author be able to mark the review as unhelpful? I've definitely seen some plugins with a bunch of reviews that are all clearly written by friends/groups of modders that work together. Any plans to monitor this?

Thank you for reviewing the process. I know we had a disagreement about this so we appreciate y'all taking the time to address and make changes.

Are you being fair? Why do some authors stop updating their content when it's broken?

If you're having issues with a file please submit a support request in the support tab on the file's page.

It wasn't a good look? I personally provided feedback from my personal use of paid plugins multiple times and basically every review was never posted because of moderation to ensure only good reviews went up no negative experiences were posted skewing results,  lol good change tho i guess

Our review feed has been public for over a year now. You can easily debunk this claim by heading over to our Discord and checking out #reviews, which details all reviews accepted or declined, and the reason for it. I don't see any from you, but that could mean the reviews in question were posted before the feed became public.

I stopped reviewing my purchases in 2023 when I realized none of them were posted.

Yeah that's fair. We don't have any record of reviews during that time. In any case, this is no longer an issue and we hope you give it another chat.

And if that does nothing? Should be delisted no?

Considering neither you nor I even know what file they're referring to, and the fact that they still haven't submitted a support request, likely not.

New review system already being abused.

0/10.

You are able to reply to the review and downvote it. Maybe now you will have to offer better customer service and be willing to adjust your plugins to the wants of the buyers instead of always denying everything because it doesn't meet your original vision.

@dustyhansen

If you think bullying developers into adding features outside the advertised scope of their products through 1-star or negative reviews is acceptable, that says more about you than about any developer’s “customer service.”

My stance has always been clear — and so has Codefling’s:
I’m not responsible for compatibility with other developers’ plugins. That’s outside the intended scope and functionality of the product.

You’re always welcome to request custom compatibility work as paid development, but that would fall under a custom commission, not normal support.

It’s also worth noting that threatening or manipulating reviews in exchange for changes is considered review manipulation and isn’t acceptable under marketplace rules.
Unfortunately, if Codefling chooses to allow those kinds of reviews to stand, it effectively sets a precedent that encourages this behavior — punishing developers for maintaining quality standards.

I’m always happy to help within reason, but only within the supported scope of the plugin.
Thanks for understanding.

I don't think posting a review that says your plugin has compatibility issues with other plugins is bullying. I think it is good information for those of us considering purchasing it.

People don't run your plugin in isolation. Your plugin is going to be one of many on a server. Most developers on here understand that and are willing to make their plugin useful for more people by adapting it to work with other plugins.

Nobody is threatening, manipulating, or bullying you.

That is fine. Have a closed minded attitude and sell fewer plugins than you could if you were to be open to the idea of adapting to what customers are wanting and needing. But don't get upset when someone calls you out on it. The market will decide, especially now that reviews are no longer censored.
