BetterChat Default Group Issue

Hey all, just have installed Carbon on my server and it seems that BetterChat doesn't want to set default group for players. I am able to work with the plugin in every other way, etc. adding/removing groups and perms, yet the plugin cannot find a default group and provides this message constantly in the console:

[BetterChat] destiny (**********) does not seem to be in any BetterChat group - falling back to internal default group! This should never happen! Please make sure you have a group called 'default'.

So far I have tried reinstalling BetterChat multiple times, have tried re-creating default groups in-game through /cpanel and in the backend BetterChat.json file to no avail. 

If anyone has a fix for this issue please let me know!
