Only Planting in center

I setup the planters with a conveyor set to put one seed and one bone knife in. After the normal delay I heard it start planting. When I checked several minutes later I saw I was getting no clones in my collection box. When I checked the planters they only had plants in the center plot. I could see them doing the planting/harvesting animation at what appeared to be the correct time intervals but there would be no output. I stopped the conveyor to save seeds. When the planter ran out of seeds on the next cycle it started outputting clones and continued for several cycles. 

I hooked up another set of planters to grow the clones and see what would happen. It appears to be doing the same thing. As with the clones if I look into the input cache to see if there are seeds/clones, when I hit escape it triggers the planting animation but only in the center and there is no output.  It will be another hour or two before I see if theses ones are doing the same with the output.

I just went and check the remaining ones in the cloning section. As it often happens not all planters immediately go into clone mode some can take a couple of cycles to switch, so I had a couple that hadn't. They had gone past the normal cloning stage and when I tried to harvest them I could grab a clone one after another.  When I grabbed it It would be replaced with another plant at about the same stage, I could see the plant genes change for each plant.  So I believe I got the correct amount of clones just delayed as it won't output till you stop feeding it seeds and it is only using the center plot. 

If I move around the planter I see different plant genes while looking at the plant in the center.
