The text and size tags are showing with the text on the panel and do nothing to change everything. I used same syntax as what was directed and its not showing any changes.

Hey, it happens because you didnt properly close formatting tag at the end of the line. 
I recommend you adding lines one by one and then reloading plugin to see when it breaks, that way you'll find where the mistake was made.
