Our Rust server became unresponsive around 9:00 AM JST on November 7, 2026. Players reported the issue, and the last save file was timestamped 8:40 AM.

At approximately 9:10 AM, the following critical error occurred:

[CustomItemDefinitions] StackOverflowException: The requested operation caused a stack overflow. at ItemManager.FindItemDefinition(...) at CustomItemDefinitions+Mutate.ToClientSide(ProtoBuf.Item ...) at CustomItemDefinitions+Mutate.ToClientSide(ProtoBuf.ItemContainer ...)

The ToClientSide methods appear to be calling each other recursively.

Could you please investigate:

Possible infinite recursion or circular references between ProtoBuf.Item and ProtoBuf.ItemContainer.

Whether the network serialization process could cause the server to freeze or crash.

Possible safeguards to prevent this issue from happening again.

We also confirmed similar StackOverflowException errors earlier that day (00:47, 02:09, and 03:43–03:44).

Additionally, we previously experienced a SQLite startup error similar to an issue reported by another user:

https://codefling.com/files/sc/25742-restart-error/

This may be unrelated, but we wanted to mention it in case there is a connection.

Could you please investigate and advise on a possible fix?

The multithreading/network issue might be caused by the Item Retriever; an update was available, so I have applied it. Please disregard that particular issue.
Could you please look into the StackOverflowException issue instead

The StackOverflow issue is related to ItemReceiver.  Try unloading it for a while. Also, for investigation purposes, I need the full server logs; I can make the ticket private if necessary.

Understood; I’ve applied the latest version, so I’ll see how things go.
