Customizations constantly resetting

Pending 1.1.14

I can't get any UI customizations to stick your plugin just automatucally reverts everything to default upon reload and I know nothing is wrong with the config because prior to experiencing this issue, customizations made to the config would save and compile, but only until reset, or the server crashes and then it would reset the UI customizations everytime.

This usually happens when the config has a JSON error, which causes the plugin to fall back to defaults on load. Check your console for 'Your configuration file contains an error. Using default configuration values.' when the plugin loads. Also, are you editing the config file manually while the server is running? A crash mid-write can corrupt it. If you can share what errors show up in console on reload, that'll help narrow it down.

THis is the message I'm getting. I know the config is good because like i said, I had it applied previously and it was fine until restart or crash and then it would reset.,

Could you please send me exactly what you are trying to change and how you are doing it?

And could you also send the version of the config you are trying to apply, please?

Here is the config that I'm trying to apply. THe main things I've changed are the menu UI settings and it's all just positions and colors and what not.

Any updates on this issue?

Hey! Found the problem. Your config file was still on version 1.1.5, and the plugin has been updated to 1.1.14 since then. A bunch of new settings were added and the old format was making the plugin throw a config error on startup, which caused it to reset to defaults every time. I took your config and migrated all your customizations into the new 1.1.14 format. All your daily rewards, UI colors, positions are preserved. Just drop this file in as your DailyRewards.json and you should be good to go.

Interesting, thank you I somehow must have saved the old config from my test server over it. I had gone through and manually changed everything back but since it kept reverting the config back to defaults The wrong file must've got saved. But regardless of it being outdated do we know why it's resetting all the UI on server restart and also on crashes?

Hey! So basically what was happening, your config was in the old 1.1.5 format, and every time the plugin tried to load it on startup it couldnt parse some of the newer fields. That triggered the "config error" message you saw, and the plugin fell back to defaults. Then during runtime the default config would get written back to disk, overwriting your file. Thats why even manual edits kept getting wiped on restart. With the fixed 1.1.14 config this shouldnt happen anymore. If you ever need to edit the config manually, just make sure to reload the plugin right after so it picks up your changes before anything overwrites the file.

The one I sent you was old. I had one that I had customized that was up to date, and it kept resetting, and also I took that config you sent me, resized the UI, and on server restart, it all reset again. The new config is resetting every single time the server restarts for any reason.

While we're here, I've also asked this before and never got a response. How do you customize the colors of the Inventory section and the info boxes? It doesn't seem like the config has a place to edit those. I have spent MANY hours in there at this point and can't seem to find anything.

I'm very busy, will reply to you a little later! Thanks for understanding

I've gone through countelss times and updated the colors of every "Back button active" and every "Next button Active" and every "Back button Inactive" and every "Next button Inactive" throught the time that I've owned this plugin and it has never once changed the color of those and under the inventory setting part of the config there's not even any Next or Back button options besides trhe back button that sends you back to the Daily Rewards.

Also why are any changes I make to my config constantly resetting on server restart??

  1. Regarding the "No response" claim: Please look at my previous reply on April 5th in this exact ticket. It contained a screenshot of my response to you from March 24th, where I provided detailed, step-by-step instructions on how to customize those exact UI elements.
  2. Why your changes are resetting: If you followed those instructions, changed the colors, and the config still reset upon restart, it means you are making a JSON syntax error (like a missing quote " or a missing comma ,) during your edits. When Rust detects a broken JSON file on startup, it automatically wipes it and generates a fresh default config to prevent the server from crashing.

This is exactly why your colors aren't applying and the file keeps reverting to default. Before saving the DailyRewards.json to your server, please copy your edited text and paste it into a validator like jsonlint.com. It will highlight exactly where your syntax error is. Once you fix the formatting error, your custom colors will save and apply perfectly.

1. Let me just say this one more time for the people in the back. The answers you've provided do not fix anything. Even in your reply, you completely fail to mention where to customize the "1/1"; all you mention are the back and next buttons, AND you're still wrong.

2. It cannot be an error when the config changes I make work perfectly until server reset. So if any changes are being made, they are being made by your plugin at restart. I can literally make changes, and they will stay in effect all day until the server restarts. I've said this time, and time, and time again. My color is applied until reset, and everything reverts to default WITHOUT ME TOUCHING IT any further. I don't know how I can word this any differently in a way that you will understand. I'm sitting here telling you the same thing over and over, and we are getting nowhere.
