Installing w/ Rust Edit, no terrain after applying Masks

Closed 1.1.7

Not sure what is going on, but I am following the video.  When I apply the masks, no terrain appears.  Also the alpha erase does nothing.  Any suggestions?  Here is a pic after the masks were applied:

Are you applying it where there is terrain?

Nope, I just picked a spot out in the ocean.

There needs to be physical terrain under the prefab, as it moulds the terrain to the prefab. This is how all prefabs that require terrain work.

Place it somewhere on the map that has terrain (even if that terrain is under the water) and it should be good.

Just remember to remove all ocean/oceanside/offshore topology from the monument if you are placing it in the ocean 🙂

I mean there was terrain under the water, it was way under the water.  So I should look for a more shallow bit of water?

Nah if there was terrain under the water it should work. Make sure you click the apply terrain button. Send me a screenie in rustedit of hunger games selected, with that water made invisible. The instructions on my video should be easy to follow.

Where is this "apply terrain button" you speak of?  I don't see it anywhere.  but  it appears on the map I chose, there is no terrain under the ocean, or at least far out in the ocean.  I had to move the map closer to land or put it inland.  Turning off the water is what showed me where the terrain ended.

Its called Apply Height Mask sorry.

When working with monuments in RustEdit, in the vast majority of cases they need to be above the ground. This is an example of an improperly placed monument:

This is an example of the same monument, placed correctly:

Here is where the "Apply Height Mask" button is located:

This is what it looks like after its been applied:

It is advised to click all of those mask buttons, as they are responsible for important features such as topology, alpha and the splat.

It is also recommended to use the topology tool to delete ocean/oceanside & off shore topologies if placing it in the ocean, as these will prevent trees from spawning.

Hope this helps.

Thanks.  I just had it too far out to sea, and off the terrain.  I have moved it to the terrain and now it seems to be working.  I am loading it up on my test server now to see what happens.  Thanks for taking the time to work with me.
