Major Server cost to run this

Closed 1.0.7

Merdynn

Whenever I load this plugin, my server fps drops between 20 and 30 fps if I enable messages and with messages set to false it drops server fps by 12 to 18 fps. This is bad, I'm only using 1 boat preset with 8 boats on a 4k map.

If this is to be expected for this plugin, I can't use it.  It's causing lag on my server.

(Including this plugin...I only have 31 plugins installed.  Server is using 2 cores at 4.6 ghz each with 32gb DDR5 ram and an NVME 2.0 drive.)

Can you please include your config, as that can potentially be a factor.

I can see you submitted a review at the same time.  I will give @KpucTaJl a heads up.

Thanks!

Hello everyone, regarding your case, everything is relative, if you make fps.limit 100 and lose 10 fps on your server, then this is considered the norm for this plugin, if you make fps.limit 50, then you will lose about 2 fps on your server. The thing is that it cannot be considered that way, the more fps you have, the more you will lose, this is calculated as a percentage. If you make fps.limit -1, then you will have fps much higher than you see now. You can try to do this. In any case, the plugin does not bring your server to the critical 26 fps, at which lags begin on the server, so I do not quite understand the problem, in any case, loading the plugin will consume some amount of fps

ok.  But when I have been running my server with zero problem at a limit of 60 and turning on messages in your plugin causes it to drop to 40 and below, I consider that problem you should probably look at.  Yes, I can turn off the in game messaging and recover 10 or so fps. None of my other plugins cause issues like this. RaidableBases and NPC Random Raids combined don't cause drops.  As I'm sure you are aware, setting fps.limit to -1 puts a large strain on the server processor. I will run it like you suggest at -1 for a week but I urge you to look into why a handful of NPCs in 8 different locations would cause such an issue.

I do have one question you may be able to help me with....How exactly am I supposed to use setting the specific locations of patrols?  is it looking for the grid assignment? IE O16, Z33, AA24 etc?

It's not just a handful of NPCs in different locations though, they are in a boat which is not native NPC behavior. But the true reason for the straight did not come about until the water system was updated drastically. Since then it is difficult if not impossible to have groups of NPC on the water because there is much more to the water system than there used to be. It doesn't change your situation at all I just wanted to explain where the strain was coming from. Before that update we never had problems like this, people would add more presets, now people are reducing the preset count.

Ok....this makes sense to me....It does change the situation for me it helps to know this is "now" to be expected and I apologize for my gruffiness.  I'm tired and Server stuff pisses me off sometimes.

All good @Merdynn understandable. Just thought that might at least help understand why this particular plugin is being a pain in the 🦋.

As to the locations it's looking for X,Y,Z coordinates. The X and Z are the important ones though I believe the plugin is going to make sure to handle the Y value for you and it will change as the water is moving around.

running at limit -1 Im fluctuating between 240 and 290ish fps .... I don't know if that's ok or not.

Any easy way of getting those coordinate positions?  Or just fly around the map and write them down?

Some plugins show it, I think there are some in-game ways to see it but you can just use this F1 command.

server.printpos

By the way @Merdynn almost missed but that does seem fine. Like you and K discussed it does technically strain the server a bit running the FPS open like that but it does look solid and as expected. If you haven't already you can reduce that to something that works well for you.

Otherwise thank you for the feedback and replies!
